Club Training At Mittelwest’s Wonder Lake Schutzhund Club
We hold Schutzhund Training Club on most Saturdays here at Mittelwest for all working breed dogs of all ages. Your dog is never too young or too old to participate! Puppies are especially and highly encouraged to attend for socialization, and confidence building. Puppy owners have access to a number of Mittelwest trainers and members to whom they can ask questions, get advice, and learn some valuable tips from throughout the course of the day. There are always plenty of other puppies for young puppies to socialize and play with as well as young children to play with your puppy to aid in continuing to build your puppy’s social skills.
During the warmer months, puppies and dogs are welcome to swim at the Mittelwest Dog Beach, where swimming vests are provided for both puppies and adult dogs. There is a dock for dock diving and the large, sandy beach is a wonderful place to swim for fun and/or exercising your shepherd. Puppies are encouraged to take their turn at the “puppy geared”, Schutzhund puppy bite work as well. You are welcome to stay as long as you like on Saturday training days, dependent on your own schedule. Some people come for an hour, others stay all day.
- Training costs are a flat fee and are paid when you arrive, you only pay on the days you actually come to participate in the training.
Private “One on One” Training
One one One private training by the hour, for your puppy or dog as well as training for you and/or your family. Individually scheduled 1 to 2 hour training sessions where your puppy or dog will be trained by the trainer, together with the owner/handler.
- Owner/handler must be willing to do the assigned homework given by the trainer between appointments. All ages of puppies and dogs accepted.
Private Board & Train Program
Your puppy or dog stays with us here at Mittelwest, and partakes in our training program. Formal obedience training including sit, down, heel, recall, sit stay, down stays, are all trained for response on first command basis, with advanced training through distractions with comprehensive proofing. Our training at Mittelwest is not limited to our dog training center – we focus our training on real life obedience and manners in the home, in public stores, cafes, etc. Nearly all of our training is done in these locations! Any behavioral issues can be addressed during this time when the owner gives us knowledge of any behavioral issues beforehand.
- Training commands can be taught in either English or German, upon the owner’s request.
- Boarding, food, grooming, continued socialization, play time, and training included!
Private Board & Train Program For
“Baby Puppies”
This program is for baby puppies that have been purchased from Mittelwest only, that would like their puppy to stay with us here, to begin their early puppy training before they leave us to go to their new home.
Training will cover basic obedience commands such as sit, down, sit stay, down stays, coming when called, walking nicely on a leash, continued acclimation to crate training and going potty outdoors. Depending on the individual puppy owner’s request, other behaviors can also be worked on such as; nipping, jumping up on people and chewing. Our training at Mittelwest is not limited to our dog training center – we focus our training on real life obedience and manners in the home, in public stores, cafes, etc. Nearly all of our training is done in these locations!
- At owner’s request, puppy can also be worked in the Schutzhund puppy bite work, to begin/introduce this work, and to begin to build your puppy’s drive for Schutzhund work.
- Boarding, food, grooming, continued socialization, play time, and training included!
Boarding
We offer private boarding here at Mittelwest for owners who have purchased their puppy at Mittelwest. If an owner owns additional dogs, not purchased at Mittelwest, they may also be boarded as well, provided the owner also has a Mittelwest puppy or dog.
Puppies and dogs are kept very happy and busy during their stay with us! Activities vary with the changing seasons; swimming, hiking, long walks, biking, romping through the new snow on snow days, and play time with other age appropriate peers. We will feed your puppy or dog our food, Farmina, Chicken and Pomagranate, during his/her stay with us, unless an owner prefers to bring their own food for their puppy or dog to eat.
- All puppies and dogs over 4 months of age will need to have a valid copy of their rabies certificate for us to begin their stay. Puppies under 4 months of age, do not require this.

WE LOVE KIDS & SO DO OUR DOGS!
At Mittelwest, we are HIGHLY involved in teaching children and helping them build confidence in working with the dogs at every level and in all aspects of whelping & helping with newborn puppies, training and caring of puppies, working dogs for fun all the way to competition level.
We encourage families and children to get involved as much as they want or as time allows in taking part of everything we offer here at Mittelwest. Dog training and dog activities are a great way for families to bond and spend time together doing something that everyone enjoys.
Please, whenever possible, we highly encourage you to bring your kids along when you visit us here at Mittelwest!
